800mw will allowing charging, but if you try to use the iPod while on the charger, the display will go crazy or the sliding on-button won't slide over to allow it to turn on. 500mw will not even let the iPod recognize the power supply. Works great. This combined with a Belkin Model F8Z184 car charger adapter powers my iPod Touch 3rd Gen perfectly. Other adapters put out only 500-800mw. This adapter fully powers the iPod.
I have a small handheld device from work that only includes a 12 volt charger, so I use this to charge the battery from a 120 VAC wall outlet when I am not in the car. Works perfectly.
Bought 2 , one for my mother-in-law and myself.I like the idea of carrying one charge cable between the car and the house. This 120VAC to 12VDC 800ma wall adapter allows me this convenience at a low $$$.I use it with the 12VDC to dual USB charge outlet plug.see: Also available at AMAZON.2 Port USB Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter Dual Plug for iPod MP3 Players Charger - Color White
Use it to charge my Garmin Nuvi GPS at home so i don't have to have the DC cord dangling in my car. Wasn't obvious if still charging or finished.
I don't need to take my ac chargers on trips, just this converter and my dc chargers. All your little car chargers, for cell phones and other low amp draw goodies are now good to use indoors. And, it only costs $9.28. The Power Line 12v power socket is an outstanding item. Plug it into any 120v wall socket and it gives you 12v power up to 1 amp. I also use it with my Roadmaster Rear Deck Scrolling Digital Message System.
